stuff + Small Press Expo + Halloween

Wed Sep 12, 2012, 12:59 PM
  • Listening to: brandy: long distance
  • Drinking: black tea
who's going to Small Press Expo in Bethesda, Maryland this weekend?!? i am! i won't have a table or be signing/exhibiting at all, i couldn't get a table before they sold out, but i'll walking around and hanging out and maybe sitting at nickmarino's table off and on when i get tired of standing.

the roster of creators at SPX is great, so many good people all in one place: Lamar Abrams, Liz Suburbia, Yuko Ota, Ananth Panagariya, Spike Trotman, Heather & Michelle Nunnelly (OracularDream and ImagineTheEnding), Rian Miller (rianmiller), and a bunch of other people. the list of exhibitors is overwhelming because i don't think i've even heard of like 95% of these creators. i'm so out of the loop but that's also kind of exciting. i hope i don't forget to pick up Dustin Harbin's book.

even though i'm sure the trip will be fun, i always get anxiety before i go traveling. the closer the date approaches the less i want to go and the more on edge i feel. lately i've been feeling a vague, nebulous sense of dread, too, so that isn't helping. i feel like something is going to happen at some point in the future and i'm feeling the weight of it advancing on me through the flow of time or something, i don't know. i'm losing my mind!!!

anyway, as some of you may have seen, Wet Moon 6 came out a week ago as of today, so thank you again for everyone who's picked it up or waiting on picking it up or waiting on an order, and double thank you to everyone who sent me an email or left a comment to let me know what they thought of the book! now i gotta get working on volume 7!! i have it loosely outlined, along with loose outlines for the rest of the volumes leading up to the series' ending, and i think i have some pretty good stuff. more Nissa and Nora! maybe it's stupid introducing new characters this late in the series but i gotta do what i gotta do.

finally, if you haven't yet don't forget to vote on my Annual Halloween Movie Monster poll!!! right here!! for those of you unfamiliar, every year since 2005 i've been drawing a different horror movie monster, you can check out the previous years here.

Omg, I pre-ordered the book on Aug. 28 and it didn't arrive until today, the wait was killing me cause I love Wet Moon, it's been my favorite comic for years!! I was so happy to see it in the mail! This volume made me cry, even shake a little, it was intense! I want volume 7 so bad now! :XD: How many volumes will there be in the series?

thank you so much!! thanks for sticking around all these years, i truly appreciate that. i'm really happy to hear you liked the book, of course, too. :) i'm not exactly sure how many volumes it will end up being yet, but most likely either 9 or 10.

I got my copy of Wet Moon 6 in the mail today! EEEEE! My husband was like "How come you always read the whole thing the first day you get them? Don't you wanna like... slow down so you can read it longer?" lol He doesn't understand that I CANT PUT IT DOWN!!! And you always have such awesome endings that make me want moooore!

I think I'll go back and reread 1 - 6 now... (:

Looking forward to seeing you this weekend. I think the last time I spoke to you in person was either the 2006 or 2007 San Diego Con.

Luckily, I don't have to travel very far to get to SPX, but I'm the same way when I take a trip. Going anywhere out of the norm is always super nerve-racking for me. I always look back on trips and such in a positive light, but beforehand I can't seem to stop worrying.

it was great seeing you, man!! thanks again for the artwork.

yeah, i hear ya, everything seems fine once the trip is over and i'm looking back on it. i don't know what it is about trips that makes me worry, just vague feelings. one thing that's cool, though, is it really makes me appreciate coming home.

Thank YOU for the artwork! Clapping eyes on that drawing in person was one of the highlights of my SPX this year. Your friend Fawn was real nice, too. I'm glad we got a chance to talk (a few times) about comics and stuff. Jesse would find it hilarious how much we talked about my collecting problems.

thanks again, i'm glad you dig the Man-Gull picture. it was great getting to bring it to you in person. i hope at some point we can hang out at a show or get dinner or something, but you'd probably hate getting dragged to some hipster vegan restaurant! :D

I did just make fun of a vegetarian Chinese restaurant on the episode of Sidetracked we recorded last night, but I'll try anything.

Yeah, we'll definitely have to try to hook up at a future show. I swear I'm going to come to the New York Con one of these years. There's always SPX next year if you think you might make it to that. Or potentially even Boston. It'll happen.

i remembered there's a really good gyro/falafel place RIGHT around the corner from the SPX hotel, i went there last time i did the show in 2009, we could've gone there.

i might be at SPX next year, i'm thinking of getting a table...
