my TMNT: LEONARDO issue comes out TOMORROW from IDW Publishing! written by the awesome Brian Lynch! here's a preview of the first several pages, check it out!! the same preview is also up at Comic Book Resources if you have trouble viewing the other one.

LEONARDO by mooncalfe

i don't want to hear any baloney about Leo not visibly stabbing/slicing/killing anyone (except the Foot ninjas he throws off a building to their deaths). :stare: i'll have to write a journal entry about this at some point, why some TMNT fans seem to be so bloodthirsty, especially when the old Mirage comics aren't anywhere as violent as people seem to think they are.

Great job on that Leo book, man. No shortage of action at all, in fact, I didnt even notice the lack of death/violence. The pacing was great, and felt like a frantic battle to escape, then turned into a more man on a mission feel. I love the Leo design, he seems so much more compact and turtle like, without sacrificing any of his agility. Plus all those foot ninja.... so many... I love it. Again, great work.

Question... was there an variant cover? In the back of the book, there is a layout page for the cover that looks bad ass, but it's not the cover on my book?

On a personal note, I don't mind color, but my TMNT loving brain wishes this book was in B&W.

thanks, man!! there is death in there, at least in my mind, just not bloody/R-rated death. i think it's safe to say that Leo is definitely slicing guys up! and on page 6 (i think?) he also clearly throws a couple ninjas off the building to their deaths, haha.

anyway, i'm really glad you liked it. i did do a cover, yeah, it's this one: [link] you can see all the different covers on the inside cover of the issue at the bottom.

Early on they were pretty violent ( Leo running Shedder through, and Donnie knocking him off a building clutching a thermite grenade, never mind that whole Triceraton arena bit) but I always thought the violence was well handled and fairly subtle (compared, say, to Invincible at the moment). Hell, I grew up reading TMNT and 2000ad, and 2000ad was waaayyy darker.

yeah, issue #1 was pretty violent, especially in the colored edition, and the Triceraton fight too but they're big monsters so it's not quite the same as the violence being inflicted on humans. i agree that it was always well-handled, and i still stand by it being suitable for kids. i mean shit, me and everyone i knew were reading that stuff when we were 10 years old or whatever, we turned out fine. :D

Haha! True, although "fine" is a relative term.
