I really think this is the best interpretation of Katniss and Peeta. They're poor, underfed, and YOUNG. Also, non-white Katniss is my thing. So, thank you very much. I just wished you made more. Keep up the good work!
Not just a lovely piece, but touching--and I'm delighted that you've illustrated them as scarred and gritty the way they are for most of the series rather than prettified for their brief, dreadful times in the Capitol and 13! I keep meaning to email and chat you up... forgive me, life can get crazy sometimes and since 2012 mine has been as crazy as it gets XP
I just started reading this series yesterday---today I am in Act III of Catching Fire. This picture is lovely, I actually saw it when you first posted, and your version of Peeta is definitely who I see in the books.
Your so cool Ross. Your art always makes my day! I wouldn't of guessed you'd read that series too but I should of known since you seem to be plugged into pop culture pretty well. Especially when it's something morally repugnant or brutal, like the Hunger Games. Nice.
thanks!! i don't think i'm plugged into pop culture very much at all, i have no clue what's going on half the time or what's cool! i WISH i was plugged into pop culture, i wish i knew what was cool or what kids are into these days, i feel older and older all the time. most of what i'm into is old shit like 70s movies and movies nobody else likes like Chronicles of Riddick and old comics.
i only got into Hunger Games last year because my parents read the books and recommended them and i read mostly YA books, and at the time i knew there was a movie coming out down the road but i didn't know it was a huge phenomenon.
Chronicles of Riddick!? I love Chronicles of Riddick! People don't like Chronicles of Riddick?
I didn't know they'd be popular when I read them either. What happened with the comic industry with the movie companies coming in and wanting to make popular books into movies is happening with YA/Paranormal Fiction right now.
ha! awesome. everybody always makes fun of me for liking Chronicles and i always see people trashing it!
i think HG was already popular when i read it since i only read it last year/several months ago, but i just wasn't fully aware of it. even when books are super popular you don't really see people going nuts over them until the book hits in the mainstream consciousness, like for some reason prose fandom is much more subdued, i guess, so even though i'm pretty active online and am acquainted with a lot of younger readers i just didn't pick up on it. all i knew was that my parents said the books were great.
