I'd say go post FF7 right before Advent Children something with Could's delivery service could easily have room for many elements of the FF7 world and opportunities with Tifa who runs the business for him. I don't want to say any more in this public square :)

i'm thinking something a bit more radical and ignoring Advent Children altogether, i don't want to do a story after the game but feel boxed in by what has to canonically come later, i want to have the characters develop differently. i always liked how ambiguous the game's ending was so i think i want to play off that.

Oh dang so going in a completely different direction that's cool. I love the game and AC and Crisis Core I guess I'm just one of those fans when it comes to 7 I mean I acknowledge and stylistic difference between the game and everything that's come after but I just can't help but be sucked into that world. So did you not like Advent Children?

i haven't played Crisis Core, is that any good?

i recently watched Advent Children for a second time and i liked it way more than i did the first time i saw it years ago, when i was devastated after watching it, haha. for years until i rewatched it a week or so ago i felt AC was a huge grievous offense to the characters and disgusting display of disrespect and indulgence!!! i don't know if i've ever met somebody else who approaches things like i do, but when i truly love something i get super particular and picky, whereas it seems like most fans of various things will consume and love all sorts of things relating to whatever property. so with FF7, which was this HUGE thing when i was a kid and you know how i feel about Tifa, heh, i'm really really particular about how the characters are presented because i love them so much. same with TMNT, that's probably the only other thing i'm as particular about.

so with AC i felt like Square was trying to jerk me off, and the movie just made no sense, and it was almost like an Inspector Gadget episode where you're like "oop, what's old Sephiroth and/or Jenova up to THIS time?" and Tifa didn't get to do anything except have one fight in which she got defeated, and i hated how none of the characters really changed or progressed and i didn't like how it was all just action and blah i don't know. i probably could've gone on a much bigger venomous tirade prior to me watching the movie again, heh.

i think the two things i hated the most and which still bothered me about the movie are the inclusion of Aeris and Zack, the fact that Aeris still apparently has a personal form/identity in the Lifestream. one of the biggest things in FF7 was the life/death mythology where when a creature dies it returns to the planet as energy and then its energy is reformed or redistributed into other life; like the example in the game of a person dying and their lifestream energy reforming on the other side of the world as a tree, etc. and i feel like Aeris retaining her identity contradicts so much of what the game was philosophically about, and even almost, hypocritically, what Advent Children itself is about. so much of FF7 is about letting go and moving on, but they won't even let Aeris herself move on or let go of her. you could argue maybe she retains her identity because she's a Cetra, but then Zack and Sephiroth weren't, but maybe it's a Jenova cell thing, i don't know. i just hated in AC how the characters were put into awkward situations that didn't seem natural just because Square had to cram in everyone for the fans.

the other thing i didn't like is how the characters are apparently superhuman. in the game they're basically normal people, and everything in the random battles is like an abstraction of what's really happening, like at the end Sephiroth isn't REALLY summoning the sun and destroying the solar system (something he can actually do multiple times, heh), same thing where you can't just revive Aeris with a phoenix down, or if one of your characters is at zero hit points they still appear in the story walking and talking. outside of the battles, even when you're at the end of the game at level 99 and your characters are godlike, within the context of the story itself the characters are mostly like regular people.

but in AC the line is blurred, it has Cloud doing limit breaks and characters jumping 200 feet in the air and all that stuff, which is fine and you could still argue it's an abstraction, but the fact that it blurs that line starts to make everything weird. like if the main characters are super, how come nobody else is? how come none of the townsfolk are super, and in the context of AC how did the main characters GET super? then i start thinking about what their super-ness means in the context of the FF7 world, and like if we're blurring that line then does that mean any townsfolk can go out and fight random battles and gain levels and also become super? and if that's the case then you could also go out and fight monsters and get gold, so then why does anyone have a job or how does the economy of Midgar stay afloat if there's essentially limitless money somehow coming out of monsters? how could there possibly be slums when there's limitless food and money? haha. i know all these things are pretty ridiculous to think about, but i still think by having the characters be basically superheroes compared to everyone else, that it creates a breach between an unspoken contract present in the game had, an 'agreement' between the battles and the story, and that somehow breaks the story context and characters in a kind of invisible but fundamental way.

despite all that i still had a major reconsideration when i re-watched the movie, so that's gotta be worth something, but that's the main reason i want to ignore AC if we do this fan comic, because of the narrative breach the superhuman-ness creates.

whew!!! sorry about that! so long-winded. i could probably go on forever. :XD:
