found these when i was digging around in old folders! these were character sketches for The Abandoned 2, done way back in 2006 when the book was still supposed to happen.

trying to remember their names off the top of my head, left to right: Diesel, Skull, Tusk, Squid, Buzz, JC, Shark, and Sword. pretty sure those are right, it's been a while. :XD:

kind of embarrassing seeing these now, but that's how it goes with artwork you've done years ago. i would definitely design these characters differently now.

here were the first three in case you missed them, uploaded in 2006, but edited to include the characters' names since this shit doesn't need to be secret anymore:

I love how good you are at drawing characters in a state of constant disrepair. You must be the master of drawing ripped up, barely holding on clothing. I hope those guys live in a warm environment.

yeah, these guys live in the southern united states and part of the zombie phenomenon involves freak weather, so in this book there was going to be a big heatwave which is why everybody is all half-naked, :XD: then in the third book the weather would swing the other way and snowy and wintery. zombies in a blizzard!

That'll be interesting to see!

Thanks so much for sharing these!

It really is a shame that TokyoPop are just sitting on it. I suppose it's more energy you can devote to ShadowEyes (just feels like it needs internal caps, dunno) and Wet Moon, and whatever secret projects you've got brewing behind the scenes.
It's sad we'll probably never get to read about Rylie's double-plungered wasteland adventures, but it's nice to dream at least, and have some sweet visual hints. I can really see stories germinating in some of these particularly, like JC and Tusk for starters. Also, why the hell can't I be succinct when commenting on your stuff? Damn.

yeah, stinkin' Tokyopop. :rage:

even though i'm sort of burned out on zombies (i have TWO unrelated, in-limbo, defunct zombie comics at two different publishers, if you can believe it) i still would love to do the rest of the Abandoned story like i'd planned. one big problem is figuring out how i'd even do it, since now i'm juggling Wet Moon, Shadoweyes, hopefully Mountain Girl, and whatever rent-paying gig i have to line up for next year if i don't want to be forced to get a day job. then imagine how a day job would affect comics production, heh, so things are rough for The Abandoned 2. :(

maybe it could be a web thing and i'd only have to draw a page or two for it per week, something on the side, do it all digitally and really loose, something casual for which i won't have to worry about the style/visuals changing as time goes on. which was something that afflicted the first Abandoned, anyway, since i did a full page a day for almost a year. the characters looked pretty different by the end of the book. :XD:

it wouldn't be the polished, lush zombie opus i'd originally envisioned 5 years ago, but that ship has sailed anyway.

Day jobs are so over-rated. I hope you don't have to get one.

It seems like Abandoned 2 just isn't in the cards for the time being. You've got so much other stuff going on, though, that I'd be afraid you'd break with any more. Paging it out a little at a time might be fun, though.

gotta do what i gotta do to pay the rent, i guess. :(

i do have a lot of other shit going on, yeah, i should be more concerned with finding a gig that will pay the bills rather than more indie stuff in my freetime. :XD:

but! i am definitely thinking about the story and brainstorming ideas. i looked back at all the stuff i wrote in 2006 and although i still like a lot of it, the rest either needs work or needs to be ditched. needs some rewriting, so there's plenty of time before i'd even be able to start drawing pages.
