some outfits for SHADOWEYES 3!

it really slows me down when i have to come up with outfits on the fly when i'm drawing a comic, so i like to make up outfits ahead of time. it took me several books before i started doing this, partly because i was much less particular and meticulous about the fashion in my earlier work, but over the years i started spending way too much time making up outfits. if i came to a scene and i didn't have an idea for an outfit, it would grind me to a halt so i had to figure something else out.

for Wet Moon i don't do drawings like these, i use photos or snippets of photos as starting points. but for Shadoweyes since it's futuristic i like to make them up myself.

i usually don't use every outfit in a book, sometimes they spill over into the next book, or don't get used at all, or get combined. anyway, here are Kyisha, Noah, and Sparkle (characters not to scale!).

Before you started posting these, I thought I was the only one this anal-retentive when it came to character design. ;) I must say, your outfits have taken some of my characters outfits in new directions.
To date, my favourite outfit of your devising is still Naga's "sharka," from Mountain Girl. =)

That's cool! Aside from the obvious silhouette cues, I could actually tell right away which outfits were designed for which character. Kyisha always ends up looking like a Fly Girl from In Living Color!

This is exceptionally cool, bro. It reminds me of what we should see in more video games. Imagine going through an RPG that actually had the character change outfits. And I'm not talking about GTA or Saint's Row style mix'n'match. I mean the game desiners and art directors plan their outfits in advance and have it used as an expression of a character's personality, current mood, environmental factors (Winter clothes for Ice worlds, COME ON PEOPLE) and special events.
The tech is there, we should see more of this kind of variety and character expression.
